Absolutely stunning hotel, can’t be beat for beauty or impressiveness. Our room and bathroom were wonderful. Dinner room was also beautiful. Staff were mostly friendly and a little kooky, not as stuffy as in some similar hotels

The hotel was in a great location, close to the main square and important sites of interest. The room was comfortable and a good size. Breakfast was a highlight with a large choose of food to cater to all tastes. The staff were polite and helpful with suggestions and happily booked a taxi for an arranged time at the end of my stay.

Some very interesting shops but just because it says on the website or on the shop door that a shop opens at x time, this may or may not be true. For example, the linen shop near our accommodation was said to open at 10 am. I waited till about 10.30 am but the shop didn't open so I left.
It is a very picturesque town, quite different from some other parts of Italy. There are many restaurants there and you can get some non-Italian foods, e.g. hamburgers.
I found Gubbio to be quaint and would re-visit but would research the town more thoroughly than I did before arrival to identify exactly what I did/didn't want to see/visit. I would even contact shops I wanted to visit, e.g. the shop specialising in linen, in advance to confirm shop opening times.

You really haven't seen Italy until you've seen Gubbio, it is the supreme example of a medieval Italian hill city, and bigger than most. The Relais Ducale's sister restaurants, the Lupo and the Bosone Garden, are fairly expensive, but superb. The Lupo is our special favourite with exemplary Umbrian food often featuring the famous black truffles, and a wonderful wine list which is not always expensive. The city is very popular with day trippers and gets very crowded and full of traffic in the narrow streets. This is especially true on market days when many streets are closed. Also, beware of fines for parking or even driving in the wrong places! Make sure you plan your parking carefully and be prepared to have Plans A, B & C for that. It's hilly, although there are two useful public lifts between different levels. A fascinating location whose only drawbacks are inherent in its ancient history.

Beautiful city I would have liked to stay more and come back for the 7th of December when the big Christmas tree on the mountain will be illuminated. I would like to see as well the "Corsa dei Ceri" in May.

Interesting old town. Compact tourist town.
Interesting old town. Compact tourist town. Tour buses coming in during the day. Many restaurants serving good to terrible food. The price is about the same at all of them, 40-60 euros a couple. Hiking up Mt. Ingino is fun. the Funivia is really fun. You can see eveything in three days. Parking is difficult. The free parking spots were always gone. We got a 1 week parking pass from the parking machine for 20 euros at the Funivia just outside the SE wall. Well worth it. About a 15 minute walk to our place. Without a car, the supermarkets are about a 30 minute walk. We came end of Sept. The tourists dropped but the restaurants started to close or had odd hours.

Gubbio in Perugia is a charming and picturesque town that left us truly captivated. The historical center is a treasure trove of ancient architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and stunning views. The town's rich history and culture are evident at every turn, making it a must-visit destination.
One thing to note is that exploring the historical center of Gubbio requires a good level of fitness. The town is situated on hilly terrain, with steep inclines and descents throughout. Constantly walking up and downhill can be quite challenging, so it's essential to come prepared with sturdy and comfortable shoes. However, the effort is well worth it as you are rewarded with breathtaking vistas and hidden gems around every corner.
Despite the physical demands, we found the experience of navigating the town's winding streets to be exhilarating. The ambiance of Gubbio is simply enchanting, with its medieval architecture and quaint squares. We enjoyed wandering through the shops, stopping at charming cafes, and immersing ourselves in the vibrant local culture.
The people of Gubbio were warm and welcoming, adding to the overall positive experience. We encountered friendly locals who were eager to share stories about their town and offer recommendations for places to visit. The sense of community and pride in their heritage was palpable, making us feel like part of something special.
In summary, Gubbio is a gem of a town with a rich historical heritage and a unique atmosphere. While it requires a certain level of fitness to explore the steep streets, the beauty and authenticity of Gubbio make it a destination well worth the visit. Just remember to bring your best walking shoes and prepare to be enchanted by this remarkable town.
Loved the location that makes it so easy to get to from the bus stop (coming from the train station), and also it is in the historic centre of Gubbio. I had breakfast only once, but noted the huge variety provided - there was something to satisfy every taste. The room was very comfortable & spacious. I wasn't expecting so much outdoor area (garden) at the back of the hotel - that was a bonus. Excellent staff - very efficient, friendly & helpful. I will definitely be staying at the Hotel San Marco when I return to Gubbio!
This is a destination hotel, not a touring accommodation. But if you are touring through Umbria and Tuscany and want simply to rest and relax for a few days, this is a GREAT spot. The hotel is lovely, the spa is really nice, the pool area is extensive, the restaurant is excellent, the bar is cool. of course, you CAN use this as a base hotel for checking out the area, bu t once you are here, you probably won’t want to leave. And to top it all off, it’s not as expensive as you might expect. Good value, great accommodation.
This is a resort! The location is off-the-beaten path so if you want peace and quiet, yet easy access to local towns and villages, this is for you. Our room the large, immaculate, and the view was fantastic. We had dinner there 3 out of 4 nights and the food was creative Italian, a real taste treat, while breakfast was so great, we often skipped lunch. The entire staff was VERY helpful, and accommodating. The vision of the owner is spot-on for a relaxing stay. Nikis Resort is the perfect place to stay in Umbria.
Beautiful property on a mountain top, quiet, peaceful, with great views and 10 min drive from Gubbio. The house and kitchen are well equipped and the bed is very comfortable. The 2 bedroom house is very private. Its a wonderful place to stay if you have a car and want to enjoy nature near the city. The owner will go out of her way to make sure everything is perfect for her guests. She had a thoughtful basket of goodies and a bottle of wine waiting for us.
The location in the middle of Gubbio was perfect. Surprisingly quiet given you are in the centre. Hosts were amazing. Ferried us from the carpark with our luggage on arrival and departure, and equipped the apartment fully with bonus of milk, biscuits, fruit, etc. There is no gorgeous view while in the apartment, but a 50m walk brings you to cafes and restaurants and views. For us, it was perfect. Thank you Mirko and Alessia.
I felt really well here, I came as a pilgrim from Gubbio and had a heartful welcome by Marina the owner. It's a wonderful house with a big garden. There was Charly the nice dog which was also very lovely. I had dinner in a familary atmosphere with the other guests. Next morning I continued my pilgrims way. The Saint Francis Way passes directly in front of the door. I can really recommend this house for the pilgrims.
No breakfast. Location was excellent for access to highway and to Gubbio town. Also less than one hours drive from Assisi, Perugia,Urbino.Very quiet at night. Perfect for a sight seeing trip which is what we did. Mr Castelli who lives on the property is very conscientous host . Initially a problem with the heating which he fixed immediately at 730 am.
Amazing location, right beside the Palazzo Sri Consoli in Gubbio with its stunning views. Staff are wonderful; friendly and helpful, especially Olga who served us apperitivi on the squre, even moving the chairs and table into the sun. The room was spotlessly clean and excellent value for money. Really fabulous stay.
Mami house is a very quaint one-room home located a five minute walk from the Piazza Grande and that the area has to offer. There is a free parking garage located about 200 yards from the property. Breakfast was simple continental and more than adequate to fuel a day of walking the streets of Gubbio.
One of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed in
Stunning view over the valley (this means of course that you have to drive up a mountain road, which is slightly tricky but ok)
Gluten-free and vegan breakfast options
Very friendly and accommodating staff. We will definitely come back again
Wonderful boutique hotel right on the main market square at the bottom of the medieval town of Gubbio. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, breakfast was delicious and free parking right outside the hotel was a bonus. Good sized room, all you can ask for at this price.
A lovely and cozy hotel and a homely restaurant, served with empathy and attention to all guests. A charming atmosphere and many exciting tourist destinations nearby.
The hotel, the hoteliers, the food, the room, all of them were great. But on top of it all, I had a massage and your Masseuse was excellent. I love her service!
